Dear Friends & Supporters,

I want to thank everyone for their investment in the James T. Golden for Congress campaign. Because no contribution was too small and no obstacle too great, the people of the 13th District cast almost one-third of their votes for us. In my opinion, ours was a tremendous victory against a two-term incumbent who raised $1.8 million and outspent us 10 to 1.

However, I am saddened by the direction our district, state and country seems to be headed. Moreover, I am discouraged at the short-term prospects for continued progress for all of us. In our near future, based upon the messages coming from the victors on Nov. 2, I only see extreme demagoguery, greater divisiveness, little dialogue and much dispute.

But we who were not victorious cannot afford to travel to our future along the path of fear, distrust and hatred. Our journey must continue to be traveled on the road of conscience, compassion and courage. We must remain full of faith in, hope for and love toward everyone. I have lived long enough to know that the race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but to those who endure to the end.

The mid-term elections are not the end of the race to a better tomorrow for all of us, and the results yesterday should only serve to strengthen our resolve. There is a brighter day coming, and we must be prepared for it when it arrives. We must continue to organize, to plan, to work. But above all, we must ENDURE! ENDURE! ENDURE!

Sincerely,
James T. Golden

Golden responds to Herald Tribune's article, "Buchanan eclipsing Golden in district race?"

Dear Editor,

I did not seek permission from any person or political party to run for Congress. After winning the primary, I became the FL-13 Democratic nominee. And each voter still gets to decide between now and Nov. 2 whether I will prevail over Vern Buchanan. I am running because we need a fair-minded representative to work for all of us.

There are three requirements for House candidates: you must be 25-years-old, a resident of the state you represent and a citizen for seven years. I have reviewed your coverage of my campaign since I began June 2, 2009. I have yet to find even one mention of any of these requirements. In my opinion, the depth and breadth of your coverage only seeks to sensationalize the serious.

Golden responds to Bradenton Herald's endorsement of incumbent Vern Buchanan

Dear Editor,

Thank you for acknowledging my “admirable record of public and community service.” I am running for Congress against Vernon Buchanan because our district needs a fair-minded representative who will work for all of us.

Your endorsement of his “conservative positions on fiscal policy” is disheartening. According to a 2006 AARP survey, Buchanan supported President Bush’s efforts to privatize Social Security. This last term Buchanan voted against all three major economic policies proposed in Congress to lower unemployment, reduce foreclosures and decrease our deficit. In a district where 250,000-plus residents rely on Social Security and where unemployment remains above the national average, your description of him as a “staunch fiscal conservative” proves my point that Buchanan, the eighth wealthiest person in Congress, is not engaged with the district ...read more

Welcome!

Thank you for visiting my congressional campaign Web site! I am running for Congress because the future of Florida’s middle class must be in creating new jobs in clean and secure energy, quality education, and caring for an aging population with compassion and respect.

The people of the 13th Congressional District want a representative who is dedicated to finding solutions to these needs for our common good. Instead, all they have gotten is politics as usual and partisan bickering.

I hope you’ll join me on this campaign to bring some Florida commonsense back to Washington, D.C.

Sincerely,

James T. Golden
