Academic Recovery Programs and Counseling

The Office of Academic Recovery Programs, which operates under the Office of Student Affairs, is dedicated to supporting students in their pursuit of academic and personal triumph. Starting from the moment students join the University, until they graduate, students can avail themselves of the Department's complimentary services upon request.

Mission

The Mission of the Department of Academic Recovery Programs and Counseling (DARPC) is to provide support services to the community of the 大发快三官网 (AURAK) by ensuring equal access to educational facilities, programs, services, and activities and by providing additional assistance through counseling, and collaborations with other AURAK resources.

Vision

In support of the Mission of AURAK, the Academic Recovery Programs exist to enhance the development and success of all members of the AURAK community with regard to academics, personal and interpersonal growth. Adhering to the values of excellence, community, respect, personal development, responsible citizenship, and integrity, the Department recognizes the uniqueness, dignity, value, and gifts of all individuals.

Our Functions

The Office of Academic Recovery Programs offers counseling services encompassing academic and personal sessions. In addition, students who face difficulties in their learning journey can benefit from individual testing to understand their learning styles and strengths and engage with a Disability Services Coordinator.

Support services are available for students with permanent and temporary disabilities. Counseling

The 大发快三官网 (AURAK) provides counseling services for students enrolled in 3 or more credit hours through the Department of Academic Recovery Programs and Counseling. These services encompass academic counseling, individual counseling, and the provision of self-help DVDs and workshops.

Academic Recovery Programs

The Department of Academic Recovery Programs and Counseling at the AURAK is dedicated to helping students facing academic challenges. Students whose Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) falls below 2.0 are placed on academic probation. The department offers support and guidance to assist these students in improving their Grade Point Average (GPA).

Academic Counseling

For students who have concerns about academic matters, the Department of Academic Recovery Programs and Counseling is available to provide assistance. The department guides students in finding the appropriate individual, office, department, or administrator who can help address their specific concerns.

Individual Counseling

The Department of Academic Recovery Programs and Counseling offers free and confidential counseling services to students with various concerns. Students are provided with a safe space to discuss any issues that may be causing them stress or worry. The primary aim of these counseling services is to provide the necessary support and guidance for students to achieve their full potential personally and academically. In cases where additional expertise is needed, the counselor can provide referrals to qualified professionals or organizations. To request counseling services, students can contact the Department of Counseling, Testing, and Disability Services in Building B. All counseling sessions will be conducted in a confidential and private setting on the AURAK campus.

Self-Help Videos

Students can choose DVDs from the DVD Library of the Department of Academic Recovery Programs and Counseling. Students are kindly requested to return the DVDs promptly so that others can benefit from them. The utilization of DVDs from the library is free of charge. Disability Services

The University endeavors to support and assist students with special needs within the available resources. Students with disabilities can seek additional support through the Department of Disability Services. Requests made are treated confidentially and with the utmost discretion. Students with documented disabilities will receive reasonable accommodations to ensure equal access to educational facilities, programs, services, and activities.

To request these services, students can reach out to the Office of Student Affairs located on the First Floor of Building D. The staff at the Department of Academic Recovery Programs, and Counseling will verify the disability and determine the necessary accommodations to promote equal access to facilities, programs, activities, and educational opportunities at AURAK.

Types of Accommodations

Accommodations are adjustments or modifications to the learning environment, curriculum, or instructional methods to ensure equal access and opportunities for students with disabilities.

It is determined on an individual basis, taking into account the specific needs and type of disability of each student. Below is a list of accommodations that are commonly provided to students at AURAK:

Preference for seating arrangements (not necessarily in front of the teacher's desk)
Assistance with note-taking, which may involve support from classmates, access to copies of classmates' or instructor's notes, or access to overheads
Extended time for tests, quizzes, and exams
Provision of a quiet and distraction-free environment for exams
Permission to record lectures
Additional time for in-class assignments
Clear and concise oral instructions, as well as clarification of instructions
Provision of the syllabus before the start of the semester

Temporary Disabilities

AURAK is dedicated to promoting the academic success of all students. Occasionally, unforeseen circumstances can hinder a student's ability to perform academically.

In the event of a temporary injury or health-related incident, students are strongly encouraged to contact the ARPC office for assistance promptly. The ARPC staff will collaborate to coordinate reasonable support efforts for students with functional impairments.

These may include temporary conditions such as broken bones, injuries requiring surgery, or acute illnesses. Appropriate accommodations will be determined individually and may include support with obtaining class notes and assistance during exams and quizzes.

At AURAK, students are encouraged to actively participate in their own learning. Students visit the Testing Services for the following reasons:

They seek assistance when facing difficulties in a particular course.
They seek assistance when facing challenges in multiple or all of their courses.
They desire to acquire more effective study skills focused on test.

Cognitive Assessments

The Department of Academic Support Services and Counseling is licensed to administer "cognitive assessments." These assessments help identify both areas of strength and potential weaknesses in a student's learning approach. By conducting these assessments, the Department can collaborate with students to enhance their strengths and foster a more positive and effective learning journey. Students in need of a cognitive assessment can directly communicate with the staff at the Department of Academic Support Programs and Counseling.

Achievement Assessments

The Department of Academic Recovery Programs and Counseling is licensed to administer "achievement assessments" that evaluate a student's current academic levels. These assessments provide valuable information about any gaps in the student's understanding.

Based on the assessment results, the Department of Counseling, Testing, and Disability Services can assist students by providing strategies and techniques to mitigate the impact of these learning gaps.

Students who require an achievement assessment should directly approach the staff at the Department of Counseling, Testing, and Disability Services.

ADHD Screening

ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and it is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects both children and adults. Individuals with ADHD often have attention, impulse control, and hyperactivity difficulties.

The most common signs of ADHD in adults can include:

Inattention: Struggling with organization and time management, difficulty focusing on tasks, needing to be more focused, and frequently losing or misplacing things.
Hyperactivity: Feeling restless, having difficulty sitting still, and engaging in excessive physical or mental activity.
Impulsivity: Acting without considering the consequences, speaking impulsively, and having difficulty waiting for one's turn in conversations or activities.

The Department of Academic Recovery Programs and Counseling is licensed to perform "Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) screenings."

It is important to note that the signs and symptoms of ADHD can vary in severity and may impact individuals differently. A proper diagnosis from a qualified healthcare professional is necessary to determine if someone has ADHD. If a student displays characteristics associated with ADHD, they will be recommended to consult with their physician for a formal diagnosis.

The Department of Counseling, Testing, and Disability Services offers ADHD training to students, equipping them with techniques and strategies to mitigate the negative impact of ADHD.

Students who would like to undertake an ADHD screening should directly communicate with the staff at the Department of Counseling, Testing, and Disability Services.

Learning Styles Inventories

The Department of Academic Recovery Programs and Counseling is licensed to conduct "Learning Style Inventories" to determine a student's unique approach to learning. These inventories are designed to give students insights into their specific learning styles, such as verbal-linguistic, kinesthetic, musical, visual-spatial, naturalistic, and more. By identifying a student's natural learning style, the Department of Counseling, Testing, and Disability Services can offer tailored suggestions that positively impact the student's learning approach. Students in need of a Learning Style Inventory should directly contact the staff at the Department of Counseling, Testing, and Disability Services.
